Nine-year-old Karli MacMullin of Florence is like any other girl her age who enjoys wearing pony tails and braids.
But this girl has seen the effects of being nine and living without hair.
Last Friday, one day before her ninth birthday, MacMullin with the help of hair stylist Lindsay McMaster, cut off her long hair for a charity called Angel Hair for Kids.
Cancer has touched MacMullin ‘s life through family members, and just recently she met a nine-year-old St. Thomas girl who suffers from alopecia, a disease that makes you lose all your hair.
According to MacMullin’s mother Dayna, her daughter has never had a real haircut until now.
“A good thing”
“When I asked her why she was doing it, she said simply, ‘Because it’s a good thing to do mom, I don’t need it and some one else does,’” Dayna MacMullin said.
“We would like to thank Lindsay for the awesome job she did on Karli’s hair, and the way she kept us giggling through the whole thing. Amazingly enough, everyone involved made it through the hair cut with out a single tear shed.”
The hair will be sent to Angel Hair for Kids, which helps children who have lost their hair because of cancer, alopecia, leukemia or other illnesses.
The hair must be clean dry and at least 10 inches long.
